Donegal White Crosses send a Strong message to the Yes side

17000 white crosses have been placed along an 18 mile stretch of road between Derry and Letterkenny. The crosses signify the number of abortions that would be carried out per year in Ireland if the 8th amendment is repealed.

While a few yes campaigners tried in vain to hijack the stunt, the sheer volume of the crosses has the yes side panicking.

A large sign giving the meaning of the crosses has appeared on the N13 this afternoon.

This has been coupled with text of the yes campaign's main arguments also being placed on individual crosses. Words like 'Choice?', 'Compassion?' and 'Solidarity?' illustrate the reasons the yes side are using to justify the intentional killing of unborn babies.

The simple symbolism of the thousands of crosses is not something that is easily censored.
The message to the government, the media and the Yes campaign is clear.  The people of Ireland don't want abortion on demand in this country.

No campaigners are inviting any women who have suffered a loss during a pregnancy to mark the crosses privately so that their babies may be remembered. It is suggested that month and year would be appropriate, e.g. Sept 93
